A16 ROCKRIDGE ANNOUNCES MONDAY NIGHT DINNER SERIES FEATURING THE HIGHWAYS OF SOUTHERN ITALY
Chef Rocky Maselli Creates Three-Course Prix Fixe Menu for $29 Inspired by the Culinary Regions Surrounding the “Autostradas” of the Italian Peninsula
(Oakland, CA; December 31, 2013)— Beginning Monday, January 6, 2014, Chef Rocky Maselli and A16 Rockridge will start the New Year by introducing an “Autostrada Dinner Series” highlighting the culinary regions connected by the various autostradas, or highways that run through Southern Italy. Each month Chef Rocky Maselli will prepare a special three-course prix fixe dinner menu for $29, inspired by the regions surrounding the featured highway. Co-owner/wine director Shelley Lindgren will offer guests an optional wine pairings for $18, to complement the menu.
“Just as the food and wine at A16 follows the landscape along the Italian highway it is named for, each month’s menu is inspired by the culinary regions within Southern Italy,” says Chef Maselli. “For example the A3 runs through the Calbrian region so we will explore the cooking traditions of this area for a month.”
The series begins with the “A14 Autostrada” highlighting the Puglia, Abruzzo, and Marche regions. Throughout January, supper guests can enjoy an Antipasto offering of Olive all’ Ascolana, olives stuffed with braised pork, followed by a Primo of either Orecchiette with cauliflower and pancetta or Chitarrina al Sugo di Polpettine di Carne, an egg pasta with meatballs. Rounding out the menu, guests can indulge with a dessert of Crescia Fogliata, an apple and dried fruit strudel. Just in time to celebrate Oakland Restaurant Week, A16 Rockridge will offer the “A14 Autostrada” menu each night of the week from January 17-26.
For the month of February, Chef Rocky will travel to the “A12 Autostrada” with a menu that looks to the hilly Lazio region with a focus on Roma and features meatier options. To start, guests will enjoy an Antipasto of Puntarelle with anchovy and lemon. For their Primo, guests can choose between Gnocchi alla’Amatriciana, a pancetta gnocchi with a red chili kick, and Rigatoni alla Carbonara. The evening ends with a Dolce of Millefoglie con Crema Chantilly, a cream-filled puff pastry of a “thousand leaves.”
In March, the supper will venture along the “A12 + A20 Autostrada” showcasing Sicily’s fruits of the sea with Primo options of Cous cous, mussels, and clams, or Spaghetti alla Bottarga, a golden pasta with dried grey mullet roe. The meal begins with an Antipasto of Arancini, rice croquettes filled with mozzarella and ragu and finishes with a Dolce of Cannoli.
In keeping with the restaurant’s dedication to preserving farm-to-table traditions, each “Autostrada Dinner Series” will feature produce from celebrated local suppliers including Mariquita Farms, Star Route Farms, Dirty Girl Produce, Full Belly Farm, Hamada Farm, TwoxSea, and Water2Table.
